The Super-Woman and Stoic-Man: Why Glorification is Passive Gaslighting

Ahh! The ‘perks’ of feminism. Ooh! The ‘satisfaction’ of equality. Yay! The power of being a woman.

Think of it and it sounds like a Disney fairy tale with an alleged ‘twist’—the damsel saves the hero, but the ‘hero’ is still called a ‘hero.’ Why so? Think harder, and it sounds like yet another shrewd move by who – Us? Men? Society? People in power?

To me, it appears as disguised gaslighting, where the ‘victims’ (A.K.A. ‘survivors’) are made to believe that they are now living, or will live, a life they always ‘wanted.’ Interestingly, that ‘want’ was created by those very same ‘Whos.’

Before the train of my thought takes another detour, let us address the ‘Power Woman’ and 'Stoic Man' paradox and look at the psychological script women are handed from birth.

The Subconscious Script: Toxic Gender Roles and Expectations

This interesting version of psychology gives a woman’s ego a short-term boost, conditioning her to channel all her energy into living up to unrealistic, exhausting ‘compliments’—whether or not she wants to. We are told:

The Ultimate Multitasker: Women can handle both personal and professional fronts with equal brilliance.

The Empathy Machine: Women are naturally more mature, understanding, compassionate, and empathetic than most men.

The Divine Endurer: Women are a "superior, fair race" born to endure extreme pain (like labor), carry the form of a goddess, and raise children entirely on their own because a mother is deemed more important than a father.

The Emotional Anchor: Women are inherently more emotional than logical, yet expected to remain unconditionally strong.

The Reality of High-Functioning Anxiety and Burnout

When we strip away the conditioning and the societal traps, the truth is far more grounded, liberating, and beautifully human:

  • Equally Human: Women are not divine, superior, or inferior. There is no competition between genders.

  • Circumstantial Strength: Women can be weak or strong, emotionally resilient or fragile, logical or emotional, and wrong or right—depending entirely on the situation, just like men.

  • Equal Vulnerability: A paper-cut (or any other pain) hurts a woman just as much as a man. Similarly, both men and women can multitask, and men can be deeply mature and caring.

  • Shared Responsibility: A father’s role is equally critical, right from conception to raising a child.

So, dear women, you don’t have to be a super-woman. Just be human. And dear others (society), stop using this tactic before it is too late and you end up raising an inferior and confused generation.

How Clinical Hypnotherapy Heals Burnout and Cultural Conditioning

As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I see the downstream effects of these gender paradoxes every single day in my therapy room. High-achieving, mid-level, and senior professional women walk in completely burnt out, carrying an overwhelming amount of self-toxicity. They feel like failures simply because they cannot sustain a divine myth that society invented, often triggering severe high-functioning anxiety and burnout.

Similarly, men enter therapy feeling isolated and defensive, trapped by an opposing societal script that tells them they aren't allowed to be emotional, intuitive, or vulnerable, which heavily contributes to emotional exhaustion in men.

Our relationship with ourselves is shaped by the conditioning stored in our subconscious mind programming. If your subconscious has spent decades absorbing a rigid script about what your gender should be, your conscious mind will continuously punish you for simply being human.

Bypassing the Conscious Mind for Genuine Healing

Clinical Hypnotherapy allows us to:

  • Expose the Script: We bypass the societal noise to recognize that your exhaustion isn't a personal failure; it's a structural design flaw in the expectations you were given.

  • Accept Your Limitations: Therapy gives you the clinical permission to put down the heavy suitcase, rewriting the belief that having human boundaries equals weakness.

  • Claim Genuine Strength: True strength isn't living up to external expectations. It is taking fierce, unapologetic pride in your actual human self—flaws and all.

The ultimate goal of hypnotherapy is to help you strip away the societal costume, return to your core, and finally give yourself permission to just be human.

P.S. Thank you Sankalp Dutt for pointing it out to me and telling me that not being able to lift a big suitcase is okay. And not being able to understand someone else’s emotions always is also okay—irrespective of your gender. The important thing is to be ready to learn, without letting your gender dictate your limitations.

If you are tired of fighting your own internal "Super-Woman" or "Stoic-Man" scripts and want to build a healthier, more authentic relationship with yourself, let’s connect.
